Mac Console: Can't connect to SlingStudio hotspot if password was changed during configuration

Can't connect to the SlingStudio hotspot with your Mac? Did you change the password when you configured your SlingStudio? If so, here's some more info.

If you try to change the SlingStudio hotspot password when you're configuring your SlingStudio unit, you may find that you can't connect to the SlingStudio hotspot with your Mac computer. Or you may find that your Mac computer tries to connect to the SlingStudio hotspot automatically, but cannot.

If you're experiencing this problem, make sure that you have the latest version of the SlingStudio Console app for your Apple iPad or Apple Mac computer. This problem has been addressed in recent Console app updates.

However, if you're still having this problem, even after making sure that you're working with the latest SlingStudio Console app, then please follow the steps below.

In these cases, the problem can often be that the old password is still being used by your Mac computer's operating system software, which has provisions to store hotspot passwords for you.

Here's how to solve that:

  1. Open your Mac computer's Applications folder. You can do this quickly from the macOS Finder by holding down the SHIFT and COMMAND keys, then pressing A.
  2. Within the Applications folder, open the Utilities folder.
  3. Double-click the Keychain Access utility to launch it.
  4. In the Keychain Access utility, click to select System from Keychains on the left-side panel. Beneath that, under Category, you can also click Passwords.
  5. Find your SlingStudio hotspot password entry from the list. Click to select it, then press the Delete key.
  6. Confirm the deletion in the dialog box that appears.
  7. Choose Quit from the Keychain Access menu (or press Command-Q) to quit the Keychain Access application.

Note: The Keychain Access utility is contains many items needed for the proper operation of your Mac computer. Do not delete or alter any other items unless you are familiar with what they do.
