When you first set up your SlingStudio, you are given the option of either accepting a default hotspot name (SSID), or creating a new one. But if you skip that option, or if you later decide to change the SlingStudio hotspot name, you can do that.
To rename your SlingStudio hotspot:
- Make sure that your SlingStudio unit is up and running, with the blue LED top band glowing steadily.
- Connect the Wi-Fi of either your iPad or your Mac to the SlingStudio hotspot.
- Launch SlingStudio Console either on your iPad or your Mac.
- Go to SlingStudio hotspot settings:
- Console for iPad: On the left edge of the Console app, tap the Settings icon (it looks like a gear), then tap SlingStudio Hotspot.
- Console for Mac: Choose SlingStudio Hotspot from the System menu.
- Under SSID, tap or click Change SSID.
- Enter the SSID (hotspot name) that you'd like for your SlingStudio.
- When you're done:
- Console for iPad: Tap SAVE AND RESTART at the bottom of the screen.
- Console for Mac: Click Continue at the bottom of the screen, and then in the box that appears, click SAVE AND RESTART.
The SlingStudio unit restarts (disconnecting SlingStudio Console temporarily). Once the SlingStudio unit has restarted, you can reconnect to it using the updated hotspot name.
What if you forget the hotspot name or password?
If that happens, you can reconfigure the hotspot name (SSID) or password this way:
- Make sure that your SlingStudio unit is up and running, with the blue LED top band glowing steadily.
- Connect the Wi-Fi of either your iPad or your Mac to the SlingStudio hotspot.
- If SlingStudio Console is currently running on your iPad or Mac, and you have a project open, close the project if you can.
- Next, quit SlingStudio Console:
- Console for iPad: Press and release the iPad Home button, then swipe the Console app upward to quit it.
- Console for Mac: Choose Quit SlingStudio Console from the SlingStudio Console menu.
- Using a straightened paperclip, press/hold the SlingStudio unit's recessed Reset button (just above the USB-C port) for 10 seconds.
- Release the reset button when the SlingStudio LED top band starts blinking orange.
- When the SlingStudio unit's LED top band glows steadily orange, launch SlingStudio Console on your iPad or Mac.
- Connect your iPad or Mac to the SlingStudio unit's hotspot.
It may take a minute or so to connect with SlingStudio Console after the SlingStudio top band glows steadily orange.
Important: If you have given the SlingStudio hotspot a custom name, in this reset mode, the SlingStudio hotspot temporarily displays a default hotspot name (SSID) instead. - After you connect to your SlingStudio hotspot, you see the SlingStudio – Reset Mode dialog box.
Tap Change SlingStudio Wi-Fi hotspot settings. - Follow the onscreen directions to reset the hotspot name (SSID) and/or its password, and then restart the SlingStudio unit.
Note that, if you have given the SlingStudio hotspot a custom name, and you do not enter a new hotspot name (SSID) during this process, your previous custom name is retained—even though a default hotspot name displays temporarily in Step 8 above.
